South Shore Ham Radio Club (call sign W1SHR) brings together amateur radio operators across Plymouth County and the South Shore of Massachusetts. Whether you’ve held a license for decades or are just curious about the hobby, you’re welcome here, and you don’t need a license to join.
Our history
The club was incorporated in 1994 as the Genesis Amateur Radio Society and later took the name South Shore Ham Radio Club to better reflect the community it serves.
Our photo gallery goes back to 2003, with Field Days, holiday parties and club outings over the years.
Our mission
We promote the exchange of knowledge, collaboration and camaraderie among members while advancing the practice and public understanding of amateur radio. We support community welfare by offering radio education and licensing exams, and by providing communications help to government and nonprofit public service organizations.
What we do
- Weekly net: every Tuesday at 7:00 PM on the N1ZIZ / W1SHR repeater (146.685 MHz). PLtone -131.8 MHz. Node: 810171. EchoLink: N1IR-R. Licensed operators are welcome to check in, members or not.
- Monthly meetings: the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Plymouth Airport Administration Building.
- ARRL Field Day: every June we set up radios on emergency power and operate for 24 hours. Learn about Field Day.
- Public service: members provide radio communications for community events.
- Licensing help: study tips, mentoring and help finding an exam session. See Licensing.
- Mentoring: new members are paired with experienced operators to help them get on the air.
